Stash v. Queue

One of the joys of the Rav is that you can look at your stash and find things to make from it (you can also look at patterns and buy more yarn, but we're trying to be good). Since I'm almost finished Wayne's socks, I've been doing some perusing for upcoming projects.

My goal to knit a sock a month is working out so far, here's my plan for the rest of the year.

* My ArtYarns Ultramerino 4 will become a pair of I Dreamed of Africa Socks.
* My Socks That Rock Mediumweight in Christmas Rocks will become a pair of Monkeys.
*My white oak studios - tv yarn in Breakfast at Tiffany's will become a pair of Ampersand (my fav punctuation) socks.
*My Koigu KPPPM will become a pair of Leyburn socks.

I think I want to keep every pair for myself, but we'll see. :)

I really want to knit a Dollar and a Half Cardigan, but nothing in my stash is appropriate. I'm considering trying it with KnitPicks Comfy yarn, since actual, hard-core warmth isn't a necessity.

Red Ribbon

I entered my Jaywalkers, R2D2 Hat and Erin's Clapotis in the Central Florida Fair and I won!!

The R2D2 hat took 2nd in the Hats category - that's $20 ya'll! :) But Adrienne swept the joint.

FO: Kinjal's Sweetheart

IMG_3891

Pattern: Sweetheart by Tora Froseth, size 6 months

Yarn: Fearless Fibers Superwash Merino in Raspberry

Needles: US2s & US1.5s

Started: March 27, 2008 Completed: April 10, 2008

Mods: None, this pattern is totally easy to follow. The increases for the yoke are cleverly worked into the hearts. The pattern comes with charts and written instructions to suit every knitters fancy.

I did half a gauge swatch and was pretty close so I figured I'd go for it. When all was said and done, I compared it to one of Em's tops from when she was 6 months old and it's spot on. :)

Cunning

An excerpt from an actual conversation I recently had with Alison.

Me, picking up a chunk of freshly cut hair off the floor: Alison, did you cut your hair?

Alison, startled: Me? My hair??!!

Me: Yes Alison, this hair. (points at hair) Did you or Emily or Ashton cut your hair?

Alison: I do not recognize that hair.

Me: It is obviously your hair Alison. Answer the question.

Alison: Well yes, I did. I was cutting paper and my hair got in the way.

---

We've recently come to that "is it better to lie and possibly not get in trouble or tell the truth and definitely get in trouble" phase. The first foray was about some writing on her wall. We chose to believe her, but after the evasive hair conversation, some more lessons on honesty may be in our near future.

Sweetheart

I've given up on the Hemlock Ring - apparently it was too much for my attention span. I didn't even make it to the feather and fan section.

Instead, I've cast on a new project for the very same baby. I was innocently bopping around Ravelry when I happened upon Tora Froseth's Sweetheart pattern (and her other patterns which may also make their way into my queue).

Adorable!

I dug through my stash and selected my Fearless Fibers superwash merino sock yarn. It was hard to "part" with, but then I considered the bags of totally cute sock yarn to be knit that would still remain in the stash and decided to suck it up. Plus, this was a huge 550 yd hank and I think that I'll be able to knit this sweater and a pair of socks.

I cast on without really reading the directions and made it through a whole pattern repeat before realizing I was supposed to be knitting flat, not in the round. So I frogged. I cast on again and after 5 rows realized I was supposed to be using a smaller needle. So I frogged again.

Here I hit a problem, my smaller needles were both in use for the Boyfriend Jaywalkers. Solution: share.

I managed to finally get things going correctly and finished two pattern repeats over the weekend. We were really busy, but stole away for a few hours and finished Season 1 of Dexter. We ended up renting the remainder of the season after the DVR decided it was more important to tape Little Bill last Sunday night. And once we watched one episode, we couldn't stop. :)
